Building a Replica of President Lincoln’s Hearse

The Blue Ox Veterans Program built an historic replica of the funeral hearse that carried President Abraham Lincoln to his burial place. The original hearse was destroyed by fire, so all the work was guided by the single known photograph of the carriage. They built the wooden carriage frame and body, produced replica decorative metal castings and covered them with gold and silver leaf.

Jay Jones of Custom Wagons fabricated the wheels and rolling chassis.

Jack G. Feather of Tombstone Hearse and Trike Company assembled the chassis, finished the interior and painted the hearse.

The hearse can be seen at the Lincoln Library and Museum any June and July.
