Project Info

Octagon Patterned Living Space

We began by finding the center of room using a plumb bob. Then we found square in order to square the medallion to the room. We then began installing 3 1/4in wide Red Oak plank flooring with alternating courses of 4in Jatoba plank flooring. All cut was made on a 22.5 angle and all seams were glued. The finishing consisted of three course sanding and five coats of high gloss oil based polyurethane that was floated, producing an almost mirror finish. In this same home we completed six different medallions and custom designed borders made of 3 to 5 board using American Walnut, Jatoba, Zebra Wood, Yellow Heart, Wenge and Purple Heart. The floor looks as fantastic today as it did when we completed this project some years ago.
