Private Client

This project is an example of collaboration between the architect/interior designer, general contractor, and painting contractor (RCP Fine Finish, Inc.). We were originally contacted by the designer to restore the home back to its original period finish. We encountered the project as a painted finish with wall covered walls. It was determined that we would remove the existing paint layers, clean the woodwork, and then restore the woodwork to its original period finish. We spent approximately three months stripping and cleaning the woodwork. Some of the existing woodwork had to be replaced as it was the wrong species of wood. We then spent an additional two plus months restoring the woodwork by coloring it with a mineral salts mixture to replicate approximately 100 years of patina. Mineral salts color the wood at the cell level, thereby giving the wood clarity. The color was followed by two coats of fresh shellac, (made by RCP FF), a custom colored paste wood filler was partially applied to replicate the necessary patina. Then two more layers of shellac were applied to enhance the clarity and patina necessary to replicate the original period finish. The walls and ceilings were restored by a team of talented plasterers. We followed by applying custom colored stippled oil glazes. The design team and client were ecstatic about the final presentation. Another great example of fine wood finishes.
