St. Paul Residence

This project residence was a challenge for RCP Fine Finish, Inc. Some of the original woodwork was painted and most had to be replaced. The original woodwork was a mixture of Birch and Quarter-sawn White Oak. We removed the paint from the Birch woodwork and created a custom color presentation that had clarity and patina. The new woodwork in the Powder Room was Quarter-sawn White Oak. Our agenda was to replicate the original period finish that existed in the house. We used a mineral salt wash to color the wood, followed by two layers of shellac, a tinted paste wood filler, two more layers of shellac and two coats of tung-oil varnish. The result has outstanding depth, clarity, and patina. We then created a custom wall and ceiling application to enhance the woodwork. The final presentation was outstanding and the client and designer were especially thrilled with the results.
